    WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY

    May 7, 2013

Autism: Where the little things are never little, where the smallest milestones are celebrated and where we are just so thankful for progress, not perfection.

On December 18, 2007, the UN General Assembly designated April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day. It was first observed in 2008. This day has succeeded in calling greater international attention to autism and other developmental disorders that affect millions of people worldwide.

World Autism Awareness Day celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism and is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed in community events around the globe.

With the same vision in mind On Saturday, April 20th 2013 the Al Muntazir – Special Needs Section hosted their Autism Awareness Day to help raise awareness for autism! Teachers met the Parents and students alike got to enjoy a party at the campus which included several activities for those in attendance to enjoy!

Some of the activities that were highlighted included fruit making delight, frame making and other art therapy activities by parents and children together! The students were awarded with certificates to encourage their efforts and hard work. This enables us to work for a more inclusive society, highlight the talents of affected people and ensure opportunities for them to realize their potential.

A special shout-out goes out to our Teachers on hand who assisted families in different activities, the teachers support helped tremendously throughout the day.

Let us also look within, and re-evaluate our attitudes and those of our societies so we can remove the prejudices that discriminate against persons with disabilities. Let us dedicate ourselves to creating a fair and caring society that affords true dignity and rights for all – Ban Ki-moon
