AL MUNTAZIR WEEK CELEBRATION
|
 |
Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today." Malcolm X
The most significant of all events on the Al Muntazir Schools’ calendar is the Al Muntazir Week when the birth of of our 12th Holy Imam (ATFS) is celebrated in all its glory. It was no different this year with the celebration at AMBPS. The chosen theme ‘Promoting Education That Inspires’ was universal recognizing the fact that Education is the cornerstone of all achievements.
Students revealed their creativity in activities that brought out a staggering array of display in different themes encompassing all subjects taught. The whole school was in motion occupied in beautiful harmony without a dull moment.
The street in the school triangle set up by the Grades 2 was very popular with all the road signs. Another group of Grade 2 students visited Chakuota Orphanage in Kigogo and spent their time reading with the orphans and gave various donations in kind.
The Grades 4 set up a table resembling a restaurant with a complete balanced diet illustrating the need for all of us to eat proper and nutritional food in the correct percentage.
The Grades 5 created the Water Cycle using recycled material. There were insects buzzing around trees designed by the Grades 6 to depict the life cycles of different insects.
The grand finale of Al Muntazir Week Celebrations was marked on Friday 30th July 2010. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Kumayl Manji, Hon. Asst. Secretary of the Africa Federation and a dynamic member of the community raised the flag as Dua e Hujjat was being recited. Accompanying him were Mr. Salim Shariff, CBE Board Member and Mr. Shabbir Moledina – Secretariat Member
The highlights were the presentation of certificates and gifts to the winners of the ‘Spelling Bee’, ‘Math Wizard’, ‘Best Groomed student in each class’, ‘Family Art Competition’ and the most exciting one ‘The World Cup Quiz’ where surprisingly parents scrambled for their networks to get the answers.
It was also the appropriate day to appreciate long serving staff Mrs. Zuhura Makange, Mrs. Maryam Msangi and Mr. Hamisi.
The day ended as beautifully as it began with everyone satiated in the magnificence befitting the occasion. We thank all our guests for their active participation in one way or the other throughout the week.
Oh Allah (swt) We pray to you to hasten the emergence of our
12th Imam Al Mahdi (atfs) - Ameen

ENGLISH CAMP AT AL MUNTAZIR
English is the international language of academics, commerce political, scientific and commercial discourse.
Fluency in English is necessary for personal and professional success all over the world.
Beginning June 14th, an English Camp was held at Al Muntazir Schools for three days. The program was conducted based on a fusion of oral, written and listening activities and facilitated by experienced English speakers from USA. The Camp was organized by an American Based NGO - ‘YOUTH IN DAR’.
The Upper Primary Students of AMGPS and AMBPS and Seminary Students got a unique opportunity to attend and be part of the three days English Camp. At the Girls Campus, the session was supervised by Mrs. Perazia Kaloly, the Head of English Department at ALMIS.
At AMBPS, the tutors, Mr. Al and Mr. Adam spent three days with the group of children who enjoyed the interactive activities and a special reward of a candy every time a student answered correctly, even the shy children were able to be part of this unique learning process.
At Girls side, the day started with ice breaking activities in the school garden followed by group work. The children chose the names of their groups innovatively. The theme for each day was as follows: Day 1: Family Day 2: Health Day 3: Knowledge. The session had various language competitive activities conducted in the morning and afternoon, making it exciting for the students and guest teachers. At the end of the camp an overall winner was announced from among the groups for the various activities that were carried out.
Mrs. Zaheeda Alishan presented the guest teachers a token of appreciation on behalf of the Al Muntazir Schools.

Pen Licence
Children can earn their “Pen Licence” when they are judged by their teacher as being able to write joined cursive script clearly and neatly using a pencil. Once they have their Pen Licence, children can then use a Pen instead of a pencil for their writing.
A special ceremony was held on the 7th of May 2010, to award Students of Grade 4 who have now graduated from writing with pencils to pens.
Pen Licenses were certified by Mr. Amani the Art Teacher, to confirm that the pupil's handwriting is good enough to use a pen.
Thirty students received their certificates.
These students have been working extremely hard on their handwriting and were very excited to receive their full pen licences. Well done!
Hopefully seeing their peers graduating, the rest of the students will be motivated to work on their handwriting.
SHOPPING IS FUN
Arithmetic is numbers you squeeze from your head to your hand to your pencil to your paper till you get the answer. - Carl Sandburg, "Arithmetic"
The Grade 3 children of Boys Primary School visited
‘Shoprite Supermarket’ as a part of their learning experience.
Mathematics is all around us. That’s what children have learnt in class and it was time came to take them for a real life experience.
This year being the ‘Year of Mathematics’, children were taken to Shoprite to apply the concepts learnt in class. They were allowed to take only Tshs. 3000/- and do shopping for themselves. They were excited to make the payment, collect the change and neatly pocket the crisp receipt in their pockets.
The basic concepts of addition, subtraction using currency were applied during shopping. The staff at Shoprite guided the children to different areas where they purchased a variety of things for themselves.
Children’s whispers were interesting as they discussed about the high prices in the supermarket and how mummy and daddy could make such huge payments when they went with their families.
Value for money was evident as they had to think, calculate and then make a choice. We are grateful to the staff of Shoprite who accorded a warm welcome to our children and guided them well.

ASSEMBLY PROGRAM
It is vital that an assembly has an enriching quality. This can be accomplished by associating the theme of the assembly with the experience of the pupils.
An inspiring story enables pupils to make connections with their own attitudes and behavior. Describing a journey with all its thoughts, feelings and emotions and using a personal story to illustrate a theme that relates to real experiences. Such communication techniques help to connect the subject matter with the pupils’ own lives.
At AMBPS, Our assemblies, which include prayers, are an important feature of our school's life. The assemblies function as one of the main ways by which we create our positive reflective ethos and promote our values based education.
Friday morning’s assembly is particularly important, as it brings the whole school together before the weekend break, to reflect upon the week, and come back refreshed for another school week. The Lower Primary assemblies are held on every Tuesdays during the week. The programs are set to include the key stage themes, year group and class assemblies.
The benefits of our school assemblies to both individuals and the school in general are enormous and heightens awareness of the needs of others, promotes good behaviour based on self-discipline; helps in development of spiritual intelligence; raises achievement and standards; builds confidence and conviction in students’ abilities respect for different culture and values; and effects self development and creative imagination and teachers sharing is caring
The pictures reflect how self assured our children are in their different programs. We take this opportunity to invite parents to feel free and join us during our school assemblies, on Tuesdays or Fridays, to enjoy the beauty of childhood blithe!!!

Professional Development Workshop
LOW COST NO COST – TEACHING RESOURCES
The role of TEACHING AIDS in the classroom is to make learning real, practical, and fun through seeing, hearing, discovering and doing. TEACHING AIDS which encourage students to experience things for them-selves through OBSERVING, EXPLORING, UNDERSTANDING and APPLYING make learning more meaningful, useful and adventurous. They can bring classroom learning to life.
The workshop started with a short prayer, followed by an introduction to the topic of the day by the faciltators, Mrs. Mushtak and Mrs. Chandoo.
Teachers were divided into five groups and each group given a low cost teaching resource. Each group had to use commonly found low cost material as resource to do an exercise on Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies and Kiswahili.
The resources used were a snake and ladder board, three dices, newspapers, and an outline of a map. Each activity was timed for ten minutes after which a feedback was sought from the leader of each group. All the teachers concluded that if they had so much fun learning and understanding the required objectives, it would definitely enhance teaching in class and make it effective.
A Power Point Presentation on how to make low cost teaching resources from surplus material and use them in class was viewed by all and requested to be e-mailed to teachers individually.

GRADE 4 FIELD TRIP TO THE PRINTING PRESS
What’s in a printing press?
We wanted our kids to get the inside scoop on how their exercise books, manila sheets for their projects as well as the printed t-shirts that they wear after school are made.
So, students of Grade 4 visited Jamana Printers, a trusted high-tech printing industry of 155,000 square feet operating from Dar es Salaam to experience practically how a printing press works from raw material to the finished product.
The boys were taken through the giant facility where they viewed the massive machinery, all modern and efficient, churning out hundreds of exercise books, calendars, diaries and otherprint material.
The guide explained how images are placed on t-shirts by silkscreening which is a high tech process which uses Screen printing machines to place the images on the shirt’s.
He also told the students how these images can be done at home in a very simple way. Students will now try the simple process in their Art classes.
We thank Jamana Printers for facilitating the Grade Fours’ on their educational trip.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Most co-curricular activities are physically active, getting the student out from behind their desk and making them try new things. This is healthy and ensures that students are exposed to practical tasks, not just what is taught in class.
After a pilot program at the end of last year, AMBPS co-curricular program is now fully functional with all the sports and club activities enjoyed by the students who enrolled by making their own choices. Due to the renovation of the Union Sports Ground, the school secured Tambaza grounds for soccer and cricket which is enjoyed by students on Wednesdays and Thursdays respectively.
Amongst the clubs, the Environmental one has proved extremely popular with Mr. Mwita in charge. Students have also signed up in dozens for the Maths Mania and the Arts and Crafts club is always in style. An unbelievable number have signed up for Soccer pointing to the fact that you can’t keep a ball away from a boy!!
All in all, the year 2010 has started off with a bang. We now look forward to parents’ co-operation in motivating the children to get involved in Community Service.

DOCTOR’S VISIT
‘PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!’
The Science syllabus of Primary Schools at the National level is intense in content. One of the main topics taught is Diseases with emphasis on AIDS which is prevalent all over the world. Since the age group of 11-14 years varies in maturity, teaching and explaining the topic needs special skill to pass the message correctly.
Dr. Fatema Chandoo, an Al Muntazir Islamic Seminary alumnus, was invited to enlighten the students of Grade 7 on the causes and effects of this deadly disease. With a powerful Power point presentation the lesson became almost self- explanatory.
She made the differences between HIV and AIDS very clear. Dr. Chandoo further elaborated on other diseases like TB, Cancer and Diabetes that can attack us due to low immunity in our bodies.
The question and answer session with the students proved very interactive and informative.
Her closing advice to all was:
‘PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!’

AMBPS PREFECTS 2010
The Prefect team has an important role throughout the whole School community and is responsible for helping set the tone amongst the student body and for maintaining and enhancing the culture of our school.
Prefects are significant role models and as such are expected to demonstrate the values of the school in their daily lives as well as encouraging them in others.
The AMBPS Prefect team is exclusively drawn from Grades 6 & 7 students. In an unprecedented move that proved a big surprise, an addition of 20 junior prefects from Grade 3 were selected to joint their peers and will be trained to take up responsibilites.
The commissioning ceremony took place during a special school assembly on February 16th where the following Head Prefects were also appointed by an electoral system.
The discipline co-ordinator led the team to take their pledge to keep up the code of conduct and be exemplary role models to all the students in the school.
Congratulations to the new team and we look forward to their positive influence on the School environment in the year 2010.

HUSSEIN DAY COMMEMORATION
"... don't you see that the truth is not put into action and the false is not prohibited? The believer should desire to meet his Lord while he is right. Thus I do not see death but as happiness, and living with tyrants but as sorrow." (Imam Hussein a.s.)
The tragedy that took place at Karbala are lessons for the humanity to draw upon in the world that we inhabit today – a guidance to those whose hearts are inclined to seek guidance and who strive to understand the significance of human actions in this world.
Our guest of honor, Sheikh Safdar Razi in his luminous address to the students aptly conveyed two among Imam Hussein’s (as) infinite messages.
One was that good will always rise against evil since Prophet Ibrahim (as) to today’s world.
His other message was that “The objective of all believers should be the pleasure of Allah Almighty” and none else.
Students at each Grade level impressed with their presentation but our youngest newcomers of Grade One truly outshone all in their part.
A short skit on two friends by Grade 5 was a lesson on the influence of friendship. All the students were amazing and inspiring.
We thank the IRE Team for their effort in conducting the program and specail gratitude goes to Sheikh Razi to remind us of Husainiyat and make truthful choices at every stage in our lives.

ORIENTATION DAY FOR GRADE 1, 2010
The simplest schoolboy is now familiar with truths for which Archimedes would have given his life. ~Ernest Renan, Souvenirs d'enfance et de jeunesse, 1883
January 11, 2010 - A lovely bright day for Grade 1 children. The sun may not have shone to its best but a sweet smile was seen welcoming the grade one boys to their new school, often nick named as the ‘BIG SCHOOL’.
Parents and children were full of excitement and enthusiasm. After checking their names on the list, they quickly walked to their allocated classes to meet their new teachers who were eagerly waiting to receive them.
Numerous activities were lined up for the boys to acquaint themselves to the new learning environment and settle them down comfortably in their classes. The excitement pervaded in the air throughout the day. As children left for home, they had beautiful puppets to take home which were made by themselves during the day.
What a day it was for the children, for the teachers and for the parents!

“And to every people We appointed rites of sacrifice, that they might mention the name of Allah…..” (22:34)
Hajj has been made a pinnacle of worship in order that Muslims who gather to perform Hajj can praise their Lord and Master, be thankful for His blessings, and humbly pray to Him for the removal of their difficulties.
Muslims living in various parts of the world get to know each other, lay the foundation of social culture, give advice to each other, and provide opportunity for collective struggle.
Assembly was made more special when Students of Grade One recited a poem to welcome the month of Zilhajj 1430.
Dressed in the traditional attire, they invoked the spirit of the month in one and all.
Mrs. Jaffer reminded us of the unparalleled sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) from whose progeny came the greatest Prophet Muhammad (saww) whose advent marked the sole cause for the creation of this universe and who would be a mercy for all mankind.
The teaching that he brought down would be for the entire world and for all times

Global Hand Washing Day
Global Hand Washing Day is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of hand washing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention. This idea was initiated in 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Over 80 countries around the world celebrated the ‘Global Hand Washing Day’ on October 14th, 2009.
This year, Al Muntazir Boys Primary School also opted to join hands in bringing awareness into our school community about health and hygiene, particularly about the importance of washing hands.
‘CLEAN HANDS SAVES LIVES’ was the slogan of the day. As a routine, pupils wash their hands before they sit to eat their snack. On this particular day, children were given an understanding of the importance of usage of soap
and its impact in their daily lives.
As children washed their hands, they were explained how bacteria are washed away from their hands using soap and water.
With a better understanding of why we wash hands before eating and after visiting the washrooms, will hopefully reduce disease in our homes and schools.

ORIENTATION OF K.G III / MONT. III FOR GRADE 1, 2010
The Al Muntazir family is privileged to have the Nursery, Primary and Seminary under one umbrella. Most of the parents choose to continue within the same system for their children, once their child ends one level. The reason for this choice is high quality education, which prepares children to become independent and lifelong learners.
The children of K.G III/Mont III are now ready to sit for the assessments for grade 1, 2010. Before they sit for the child friendly assessment, it was but very important for them to be oriented to the new system that they would be introduced to. This orientation enables the little ones to acclimatize to the new environment which is happily termed as the ‘Big School’. The boys and girls of the Union Nursery were invited to the Boys Primary and the Girls Primary school respectively on Thursday, 24th September.
The Boys were welcomed with a touching song by Grade 1 children and a short speech by Farhad, again of Grade 1. A drama presentation of ‘Chicken Licken’ was a treat to watch. The Nursery Boys were then taken on a school tour where they were briefed about the specialized rooms along with their classrooms and washrooms. Following the tour, they were exposed to a variety of hands-on activities to give them a flavor of the Primary School style of teaching/learning methods. Their visit ended with exchange of gifts as souvenirs.
These children will sit for the ‘Child Friendly Assessments’ on Saturday, 26th September which is expected to be another exciting day.
ASSESSMENT FOR GRADE 1, 2010 FOR UNION NURSERY CHILDREN
Child Friendly Evaluation for the K.G/ Montessori III students from our sister School AMUNS was held on Saturday, 26th September 2009 from 8:30 – 12:00 noon. Both boys and girls, sat for the assessment at the same venue, i.e Girls Primary School.
The day started early when parents accompanying their children reached the school for registration. The Orientation, which was held two days earlier on Thursday, 24th September, had a great impact on the children. They settled in very well as they recalled meeting the teachers. This enabled them to be comfortable in the new environment and sat for their evaluation without hesitation.
The warming up activity of puzzle fixing got the little ones in to the mood of writing their English and Mathematics assessments.
Children were confident and displayed good understanding of the day’s work. By mid day, they were through with different activities and were all set to now start story –telling to their parents about the happenings of the day.
Results of the evaluation will be announced on Wednesday, 21st October, 2009

AL MUNTAZIR WEEK – 3RD – 7TH AUGUST 2009
“Whenever an authority disappears, another one appears; and if a star sets, another one rises.” (Biharul-Anwar Ch.53, P.185)
The climax of this momentous week would be futile if we did not celebrate the birth of the last progeny of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and living Imam Al-Mahdi (atfs) in a justified manner incumbent upon each one of us.
The program started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Mr. Ogaja, the Principal, gave a short speech on the essence of the whole weeks’ activities carried out by students at every level. The flag raising ceremony was conducted by our very own veteran teacher Mr. Ally Mtipula.
Since the Al Muntazir Week activities were based on class performance and not individually based, students and teachers were excited as the awards for all their hard work were announced.
This was interspersed by beautiful portrayal of poems by Grades One and Two as well as Grades 3 and 4 students who explained the attributes of Imam Al Mahdi (atfs).
The day ended well with rain, a sure sign of blessings from Allah (swt).
SPELLING BEE 2009
“When our spelling is perfect, it's invisible. But when it's flawed, it prompts strong negative associations”. Marilyn vos Savant
The Spelling Bee at Al Muntazir Primary Schools aims to discover the school’s best young spellers and make spelling fun for children of all abilities. We are committed to support parents and help inspire children’s evolvement in their mastery of the English language.

LEARNING WITH A DIFFRENCE AT THE BOYS PRIMARY SCHOOL
Every human being is proud to be a citizen of his own Country. It gives him his identity and sense of independence.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Presentation for Grade One Students on ‘MY COUNTRY’
The learning process, presented in a different manner, makes the learners receptive and creates a voluntary interest in the subject, which turns the class into geniuses who open their minds to broader horizon.
Pupils of Grade 1 at the Al Muntazir Boys Primary School are learning about ‘My Country’, from the Social Studies syllabus, and for this particular topic, an interactive session was arranged at the School Hall for
the students.
The children entered the hall proudly holding the Tanzanian flags in their hands made by themselves in their respective classes. Relevant resources – the globe, map, pictures and charts were already set up in the hall..
‘Seeing is Believing’- the boys settled down eagerly and looked forward to receive a lot of information about their country, they asked questions for more clarification during the lesson. ‘What is independence?’ Asked one student, ‘What is the national animal of Tanzania, and the national game parks of Tanzania? were some of questions raised by the children.
Mrs. Mshumi responded to all the queries interactively which made the whole session very interesting.
At the end of the session, the children thanked Mrs. Mshumi for her educative talk and promised to study more about their country, Tanzania.
MATHEMATICS
Aren’t ‘INETEGERS’ interesting?
The year 2009 has been declared as ‘The Year of Mathematics’ at the Al Muntazir Primary Schools. Hence the staff have undertaken to conduct maths learning in different
Methodology.
The famous German mathematician Leopold Kronecker once said: "God made the positive integers; everything else is the work of man." An integer is a whole number that can be either greater than 0, called positive, or less than 0, called negative. Two integers that are the same distance from zero in opposite directions are called opposites. Every integer on the number line has an absolute value, which is its distance from zero.
Teaching students to understand integer addition is easier than subtraction. This is partly because the contexts that can be used to teach integer addition do not work well for integer subtraction. Mrs. Indira chose to simplify this very complex topic by presenting an interesting, colorful and powerful presentation on how positive and negative numbers work in tandem. She showed the rules by using real life examples like thermometers and sea levels and ended it with an exercise. Students enjoyed and learned the topic faster than in the classroom.
Importance of ‘ PRAYERS’
Mrs. Effat Thawer, IRE Deputy’s one goal is to ensure and reinforce Salaat through constant monitoring, guidance, teaching and joining the students at AMBPS on every Monday for Prayers without fail.
While the presence of a teacher teaching children the proper method of making Salaat cannot be underestimated, parents play a fundamental role in developing the understanding of the importance of the first pillar of Islam.
Today, Muslim parents have coloring books, storybooks, developmentally appropriate teaching videotapes, audio tapes, and computer programs to enhance the learning process.
One such process was used by Mrs. Thawer through
Power Point presentation stressing on the pronunciation
of the dhikr as well as the spiritual essence and achievement through prayers.
The program was unique in itself as it encompassed all cultures and religions since prayer to the Almighty is a universal concept practiced by one and all. We sincerely commend
Mrs. Jaffer, Mr. Salum and Mr. Ally for their continuous effort and support in fortifying this essential component in the teaching and learning process.

GRADE FOUR FIELD TRIP – NATIONAL MUSEUM
The Grade 4 pupils of Al Muntazir Boys Primary School visited the National Museum on Thursday 7th May 2009 to experience man’s past way of life. This natural history museum exhibits numerous bones and other fossilized remains, including a cast of one family’s footprint trail left in volcanic ash over 3.5 million years ago. They got an opportunity to explore and observe the museum’s collection in order to discover history once more.
Pupils in groups with their teachers practiced how to make fire using ‘ulindi na ulimbombo’ sticks. In their words, “Wow, that was difficult.” “How did they do it?” and so many more questions whose answers will remain with our ancestors.
Next in line, were the chopping Stone Age tools used for cutting raw meat. It was a sight to remember as the students struggled to chop meat albeit successfully.
After the activities, all the students took a tour of the museum to see the remains of the Homosapiens, and the skull of the Zinjanthropus, a difficult word that they only heard of in their lessons.
The Class came alive and learning was definitely effective and impressive!!!!
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE AT BOYS PRIMARY SCHOOL
Parents as partners in education, play a pivotal role in the positive upbringing and development of their children.
On Friday 24th April 2009, a Parent Teacher Conference - PTC, was arranged as per the school calendar, whereby parents were invited to have a discussion about their child’s progress at school.
As per the School’s our expectations, most of the parents kept time and were eager to meet their child’s teachers in order to discuss their progress at school. Many parents were also keen on getting tips from school on how to assist their child / ward at home.
An encouraging attendance of the parents motivated the teachers. More seriousness is now evident in the parent community, which in turn motivates the pupils to take responsibility of their own learning.
This sharing process has given a refreshing direction to parents and teachers to work better with their children in order to make them better people.
We sincerely appreciate and wish to thank the Parents’ Community for the active participation in their child / ward overall upbringing academically as well as socially.
DOCTOR’S VISIT AT BOYS PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Grade 2 children had a wonderful opportunity in their area of learning about different ‘Professions’, during their general knowledge session.
Dr. Rose Bashir, a medical practitioner and parent of Ayman B Samma studying in Grade 4 at the Boys Primary School; was invited, and she conducted an interactive and an enlightening session with the pupils.
To enhance their understanding, she talked to them about why she chose this profession and what it takes to become a doctor and shared her expertise in this field.
She deeply emphasized on the spread of diseases and how it can be prevented. This was eminently connected with self hygiene. Pupils were glad to know that by following simple steps, each one of them can prevent diseases.
The power point presentation by Dr. Rose kept the learners glued to her conversation, as she explained slide after slide. “The germs, when enlarged under a microscope, look like sausages”, said Dr. Rose as she was explaining the slide on ‘How small germs are’. At the end of the slide presentation, pupils asked questions and also answered questions asked by the doctor.
“Not only does an apple a day keep the doctor away but also cleanliness in the surrounding can help us eradicate many diseases!” she concluded.
Now the children are well aware of self hygiene and simple steps to prevention of disease at home, at school and in their surroundings.

PRIZE GIVING DAY AND MILAD UN NABI PROGRAM
"NO GIFT, AMONG ALL THE GIFTS OF A FATHER TO CHILD, IS BETTER THAN EDUCATION."
The Al Muntazir Boys Primary School held the annual Prize Giving Ceremony on Friday, 13th March 2009. The occasion was made even more special with the combined celebration of the birthday of our Holy Prophet (pbuh).
The school honored its top performing students in the Upper Primary School based on academic performance with special gifts, and for students in the Lower Primary School the awards were based on specially tested psycho motor skills. The program was a happy joyous one, full of cheer and laughter.
The program began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran, followed by various presentations in the form of poems, portrayal of “a child getting ready for school”, a short skit, and Qasidas paying tribute to our Holy Prophet (PBUH). Mrs. Mushtak was in great spirits rousing and challenging the students and parents to join in the special AMBPS clap.
Mr. Ogaja’s special message was a challenge to the students as well as parents on moving together hand in hand to soar even higher. He announced the School’s National Examinations standing at the District level and challenged this year’s batch to beat the records. The program ended within the stipulated time frame with the continuity of normal lessons for the day.

GRADE FIVE FIELD TRIP
Our Grade Five students visited the East Coast Oils and Fats Limited, an METL Group Company. It comprises of two plants: the Physical Refinery and Dry Fractionation Plant (PRDFP) and the Soap Plant (SP) as part of their learning in the education field.
The soap manufacturing plant located close to the harbour jetty in Dar es Salaam is a state of the art computerized factory having four lines of manufacturing laundry soap and one line for producing toilet soap.
The students were excited to see how an item they use daily for their cleanliness undergoes and elaborate process of mixing, working, heating and cooling. They were also very surprised to learn that milk powder was one of the active ingredients used in the processing of the final soap bar.
The PRDFP is also a modern plant totally automatic and computer controlled. The oil refinery has a capacity to fractionate 600 metric tons per day of refined bleached and deodorized palm oil and the facility was humming smoothly on a click of a computer key.
For the students, it was a lesson in Science where we are sure they will never take a bar of soap for granted again.
GRADE 1 ORIENTATION DAY – 13TH JANUARY 2009
Birds chirping, flowers smiling, cool breeze blowing – all ready to welcome the little angels of grade 1 as they came to their new school - The Al Muntazir Boys Primary School.
Much to our surprise, all children went straight to their allocated classes after comfortably saying goodbye to their parents. The excitement of new school and new children pervaded the air.
The children were kept involved in various activities that they enjoyed thoroughly. They were thrilled to visit the specialist rooms’ i.e. the Computer room, Library, Art room etc.
An informal assembly was held to welcome and brief the young students with a special message about the School’s expectations.
Overall, it was an exciting day for the new children, parents and for the teachers.

PEACE POSTER DRAWING COMPETITION
It is vital to teach students responsibilities in a concrete manner and therefore the Creative Arts served as a pathway to reach the hearts and minds of children for implementing the message of Peace. The vibration of love and respect for humankind can resound throughout the world, but it has to begin within each one of us individually.

GRADE 7 PREPARE FOR NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS
“Booster Lessons Reinforce Effectiveness”
Most students need extra help in some subjects that is why we, at Al Muntazir Primary Schools, emphasize strongly that our students attend the Booster classes for the core five subjects taught at school. Booster lessons convert positive trends gained from the initial lessons into statistically significant changes.
We use a team of instructors to deliver our booster prep course — each one teaching in his or her area of expertise. The 60-minute booster lessons, delivered over two consecutive weeks, starting from June 23, 2008 reinforced materials learned the previous years. As in the core curriculum, the booster lessons support three main goals:
• Focus –students are kept focused on the key concepts and problem solving skills that are tested in the exams.
• Motivation and Teamwork - working with familiar instructors and classmates keeps you motivated and that “we’re all in this together” spirit really helps boost morale.
• Feedback - In class practice, mini tests tell the team where the strengths and weaknesses of the children lie.
With the intense preparation prior to the examinations, we wish all our candidates the best results to make the school and the parents proud.

BPS CELEBRATES MILAD UN NABI
The Holy Prophet ( S.A.W.W.) was sent as a Mercy to the whole of mankind and hence, it is incumbent upon all human beings, and not just the Muslims, to celebrate the birth occasion of this lofty personality. Al Muntazir Boys Primary School celebrated Milad un Nabi on Friday 25th April, 2008.
The program began with the beautiful recitation of verses from Surah-e-Rahmaan followed by the regular assembly. Students from the youngest ones of Grade1 to the eldest of Grade 7 participated in one segment or another in a continuous flow of rhythm and act. A short skit manifested the miracle of the Holy Prophet’s ascension to the heavens on the occasion of Me’raj. Teacher Farhana trained her groups to render the Nasheeds effortlessly. An extempore based on the sayings of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W.) displayed the eloquence of the students taking part.
A week prior to the climax, grade-wise internal competitions were held in the school; memorization of the Holy Prophet’s names, poems, making of birthday cards, key chains, chimes, gift wrappings and 3D models of Heaven and Hell. All the winners in each category were awarded with gifts.
AMBPS takes this opportunity to thank all parents and dignitaries who took time out to grace this grand occasion. We look forward to your continued support in our future programs.
AMBPS FIELD TRIPS
A field trip does not equate to "free time." Students know that they are still having school, it just happens to be in a different location from usual. The concept of going away from the daily environment to another place to learn a concept taught at school always remains a unique experience.
For children, the word ‘SHOPPING’ conjures up a lot of excitement!
The Grade 5 students visited Milimani City to enjoy all the mouth watering goodies. Students in separate groups visited Shop Rite, Game, Bookshop, Fairy Delight, etc
However, underlying the main cause of the trip was a lesson in Math. The topic of Money and Bills begin at the lower levels to our daily lives in adulthood.
Children need to learn the art of spending money, budget it for the required things, paying and receiving the correct change and quick mental additions and subtractions. Pupils enjoyed the trip and returned to school with a practical sense of how to write correctly.
Meanwhile, the Grade 6 went to Jamana Printers. Here is where Science and Art came to play. Students were fascinated to see giant machines printing at a click of a computer button. They viewed how riots of colors combine to make stunning calendars, a copy of which each student received as a token.

HUSSEIN DAY
“Kullu Yawmin Ashura, Kullu Ardhin Kerbala”
Every Day is Ashura, Every Land is Kerbala.
Ashura is the day which reminds us of our existence on earth and its purpose. This is the day which refreshes our spirits as we recollect all the sacrifices laid out by our great leaders in order to save the religion of Islam. Hussein Day was commemorated at the Al Muntazir Boys Primary School on Friday, 8th February to pay tribute to our Martyrs of Kerbala. The school atmosphere was pervaded with sadness as all children walked in the procession to mark the importance of the day.
Sheikh Tahir Redha, who was the Chief Guest for the day, enlightened the pupils with the beautiful and strong messages from Islam which can enable them to become good pupils and useful citizens. He said: “Islam Advocates discipline in all walks of life. So, at School, pupils need to take up this very important lesson in order to lead a successful life”.
Pupils from various classes presented chants and poems in different languages to share their understanding of the valiance of Imam Hussein and his companions. Parents and teachers were also dressed in black to show their solidarity for the day. Sabil of water was offered as a remembrance of the thirst of Ali Asgher (a. s). The 90 minutes program was concluded on a solemn note as a Pupil from Grade Seven recited Ziyarat of Imam Hussein (a.s)

Back to School !!
The Sun rise of the morning of January 14th saw little boys getting ready in excitement for the first day of School at AMBPS. The heartbeats were at a crazy pace with the thought of going from Nursery to Primary. It was a day that spelled nothing but excitement - the Orientation day for the Grade 1 2008 should be expected to be a special year, with lots of pleasant changes. The most important one being the introduction of the Lower and Upper Primary School concepts where the focus would now be towards the development of the child at lower level and improvement of academics at upper level.
To accommodate the changes, several structural and educational modifications have been worked upon. New furniture has been placed in grade one classes to suit the needs of cooperative learning environment. Plus, classes have experienced a facelift with fresh painting - this time in different colors.
After the new kids on the block had been acclimatized to their classrooms, they were taken on a school tour in order to familiarize them with the new environment. Children were thrilled to see so many specialized rooms and also the number of teachers they would be interacting with.
The excitement among the students increased when they saw the huge and well equipped computer lab and the well stocked library
“It’s a wonderful school,” one of the Grade 1 students said. “Why is it only 7 years?”

For the First Time Ever – Congregational prayers at Al Muntazir Primary Schools
Al Muntazir Schools have introduced Salaat at the Primary Schools, aimed at inculcating the habit of offering Salaah on time, in the children. Students need to train to pray the right way and it is never too early to instill in them the importance of this obligatory act together with promoting the nourishment of the soul.
Besides taking man closer to Allah (swt), the other main purpose of Salaat is to bring the students together and teach them equality and brotherhood. The worshippers stand in rows, shoulder to shoulder, without any distinction of race, nation, colour, wealth, family, status, etc., and all pray together as one body. They feel humble before God and brotherly among themselves.
The initial stage of the Salaat programme at the school has included students of Grades 6. It is heart warming to see children eagerly waiting for 1.00 p.m. to pack and run out of class to do the required ablution before praying. The school now has new and excellent wudhoo facilities. At AMBPS, the boys gather in the hall in singular lines ready for the Imam (leader) to conduct the prayers. IRE and other teachers are present to guide them on the propriety of the recitation as well as the seriousness of our bonding with the Creator.
"Successful; are indeed the believers who are humble in their Salaat." (23:1-2)

Previous: EID PROGRAM AT AMBPS
Eid ul-Fitr signifies the end of Ramadan, which is the month of fasting to learn discipline, self-restraint and generosity, while obeying God's commandments. Eid this year was celebrated by students at AMBPS exuberantly with live performances.
The morning began with the regular assembly routine inclusive of the National Anthem and Duas.
The most awaited moment was the announcement of the winners of the Qura’n Hifdh competition held in the last week of Ramadan. The winners were Murtaza Bhanji and Adnan Thabit of Grade 6 Ruby. Fuad Thabit of Grade One deserves a special mention as he proved that age is no barrier to achievement. The first three winners from every grade were honored too.
A beautifully harmonic presentation of A is for Allah followed, highlighting the concept of Islam in an exceptionally inspirational approach. A short skit was presented to impress upon the students the values of caring and sharing. Striving for Unity, a poem depicting the plight of children of the world was recited, stirring all the listener’s emotions. A special item on the menu, was the ‘Gajjar Ka Halwa’ (carrot sweet) – the Grade 7 boys wore their aprons and took the school step by step on how to make this special Eid sweet dish which they later served to the audience.

“Where Creativity has no Boundaries”
At AMBPS what began with a small spark of imagination turned into a fireball of illustration. The Art room has become a beehive of activity wherein students from different grades manifest their imaginative creations in vibrant colours.
In a recent competition between the Grade Six, groups of students were asked to put together a show piece titled
“Where Creativity has no Boundaries” using a mix of abstract, calligraphy, graffiti, etc. on a multihued or background of choice. The winning group from Grade Six Emerald presented artwork that was unique and full of character. At the same time, the Grade Five pupils had to write “Art Room” using a blend of graffiti and calligraphy. Several winners emerged who conveyed interesting visions that appeal to different senses. Several young artists were also lauded for sparing their free time to change the face of the Art Room itself.
Ms. Farhana Karim, the Art mentor who piloted the contest, awarded the winners with stunning Tinga Tinga art ‘certificates’ inscribed with the winners’ names. This was definitely the first time that Art was recognized at its fullest form. AMBPS Art Room is a must visit place for all who have a taste and love for art.

There was even more to rejoice as this day saw the advent of the Al Muntazir Week at all the Al Muntazir Schools.
The best part and a surprise was when the teachers and parents had to catch a cock that as released from a box. The poor cock had no chance when the scouts master Mr. Urio got his body on it. Fathers then had a chance to show their prowess on the ground in a mini football match against the male teachers. No goals were scored but penalties shoot out broke the stalemate. Previous Activity: BUDDY READING PROGRAM
The Buddy Reading program at AMBPS is becoming an integral part of our school and taking its own magical shape.
The little ones from the lower grades get to see role models and the older ones learn valuable skills such as patience, coaching and mentoring. The match-ups vary. Pairings of seventh and third graders, first and fifth graders, etc. The timings of the buddy meetings also vary from teacher to teacher. We found one period a week to be practical. The beauty of the program is that it can be adapted to include a variety of activities like reading, writing, math skills and so forth.
Students who are new to a school or are English language learners benefit from having a buddy assigned to them. Teachers report that participation in buddy programs enhance children’s cooperative learning behaviors such as taking turns, listening, sharing knowledge and completing a task. Due to the extra attention and assistance, the younger children’s work often improves. As the older students assume the role of the teacher, they are motivated to do their best. They experience pride in their ability to be helpful as they also sharpen their reading skills. This pride instills a sense of discipline too.
Buddy programs promote a favorable school atmosphere. In some cases, the students sit with their “buddies” during break or have time together on the playground where the older partner keeps an eye on his little buddy.
The end result is that everyone is a winner in this cross-grade program.
Previous Activity dated on 12th March 2007: FIRST LADY VISITS AL MUNTAZIR BOYS PRIMARY SCHOOL
Mothers! If Webster had given it more thought, surely he would have defined the word “mother” as, “The most dependable source of honesty known to man.” When it comes to cutting to the chase and telling it like it is, mothers are natural professionals.
Our First Lady, whom we are very proud to have as mother to the Nation, took time off her very busy schedule from empowering women of Tanzania to visit AMBPS to check on the academic progress of her sons.
As a teacher herself, she is so much aware that the mother/son connection is part of the fabric that holds neighborhoods, schools and the country together. The most dynamic part of our First Lady, Mama Salma Kikwete is her unassuming nature towards the treatment of her sons at school.
She visited her sons’ classrooms and discussed with the teachers the children’s development in their day to day studies. She also urged the teachers to treat the boys as they would treat any one of the students in class. She stressed on the need to nurture her son to grow up as straight toward citizens.
Mama Salma Kikwete ended her visit appreciating the School’s management and teachers for doing a fine job.

The best part of field trips- It makes learning fun!!
BPS students embark on discovering and learning trips.
Educators and field-trip experts agree that although field trips cannot replace classroom teaching, children do gain valuable experience from them – one of which being “that learning can be fun.”
However, for a field trip to be an effective tool of learning teachers must reinforce what the children have learnt in the trip with another class lesson. Field trips at the Al Muntazir Schools are arranged with this perspective. Students are prepared for the trip and the trip is designed in relation to the lessons being taught in class. After the trip, teacher and students discuss their experience.
Grade 6’s visited Mukwano Group to experience first hand the mechanisms of a modern, computerized factory. Courteous staff took them around to see how plastics have come a long way since prehistoric times in revolutionizing household industry. Each child returned laden with a goody bag.
A group of Scouts represented the school at a regional scout competition held at the Scouts National Headquarters to celebrate the birth of the founder Sir Lord Robert Stephenson Smith Baden Powell. It was a high point for the Scouts to practice their skills, interact socially and achieve different professional badges in scouting.
The Grade 5’s went to Azam Factory where they can review their lessons on the mathematical skills and mental calculations (recall of multiplication and division facts, recognition of common factors and multiples) associated with the right numbers to make the best biscuits.
Previous Activity dated on 27th Feb 2007: ‘HUSSEIN DAY’ – LESSONS FROM KERBALA
On Friday the 16th of February found the students at AMBPS campus in a somber mood. We were honoring the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (as) with a special program wherein all the children participated in one way or another.
The day began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Maisam Versi of Grade 3 followed by the Grade 1’s who opened up the theme on the lessons learnt from Kerbala. Thereafter, a question
and answer talk show by the Grade 7’s followed on the applicability of the lessons learnt from the great sacrifice which were inclusive of friendship, generosity, love and faith in Allah (swt).
A letter writing competition that was held in the school a week prior to the event culminated in reading of the winning ones by the winners. Some of the martyrs were acknowledged by calling out students who bore their names to stand up after which the whole
School recited Surah Fateha.
Mr. Ogaja ended the program with a short message on the universality of the magnitude of Imam Hussein’s principles and the reverberation of the same in our lives.
A peaceful, short procession around the school campus ended the day’s event with everyone’s heart full of new perception.

TGIF-Thank God It’s Friday
Being physically fit is more than just physical. It also delivers benefits to your mind. It alters your personality in a positive way. It changes a person for the better, and being involved in an organized social sport gives a child social skills, teamwork skills and many other socially-oriented skills.
At Al Muntazir Boys Primary School, Fridays are special. It’s CLUB Time. For one hour students from Grades 1 – 6 play the sports or activity of their choice under the supervision of teachers assigned to every club.
Students enjoy cricket which has become popular, basketball, football, karate, quiz, scrabble, art and craft, carom, scouts and the newly introduced Math club. Surprisingly, being a female domain, the Cookery club is fashionable even with the boys. Last Friday, club members were treated to a special lesson on how to prepare a mouth watering fruit salad.
In addition to setting a foundation for a healthy adulthood, we believe that: "A sound body makes a sound mind."
